Where do you purchase your green beans ?

Joe Bean purchases their green coffee from around the coffee world through a coffee roasting cooperative that works directly with small coffee farmers and cooperatives.  
 

Organic and Fair Trade

How do you know a coffee is organic ?

The United States Department of Agriculture has several agencies that certify farmers and businesses as organic.  Currently, Joe Bean Roasters purchases organically certified coffee from coffee farmers but our business is not organically certified which is why our coffees to do not have the certification stickers on them.  However, we are in the process of certification and expect to be certified by the end of the year.   

Why did you choose to focus on Organic and Fair Trade coffee ?

By choosing to purchase organic coffees we are supporting a system of coffee farming that is sustainable by focusing on shade grown coffee.  Fair trade coffee is a commitment to purchase from small farmers at a fair wage.  See our educational material under Fair Trade or Organic for more information.  


General Coffee

What are the health benefits of coffee ?

Coffee has many health benefits including being extremely high in fiber and antioxidants.  For the latest in health discoveries, see www.coffeescience.org.

What’s the best method for brewing my coffee ?

This is personal preference; each coffee brewing method results in a slightly different type of coffee varying in body, brightness and richness.  See our information under brewing techniques for more information. Currently, our personal brewing method of choice is French press.

Why is it beneficial to grind my coffee right before brewing ?

Coffee begins to lose its flavor the minute you grind it so the closer you grind it to brewing, the fresher your cup of coffee will be.


Store

How long will it take me to get my coffee order ?

Joe Bean roasts all coffee to order, in other words we don’t have any coffee sitting around.  Once we receive an order, we roast within 48 hours.  If the order is for ground coffee, we need to add an additional 18 hours for the coffee to “de-gas” prior to grinding.
